Why go

Wandelhalle

Built in 1912 under Eugen Drollinger, the Wandelhalle is a neo-baroque building on the edge of the Royal Spa Garden. It combines a drinking pavilion and a concert rotunda under one roof, and is directly connected to the AlpenSole Gradierhaus.

Inside, the light-filled reading and fountain hall invites you to slow down: chairs and tables, free daily newspapers, readings and chess boards, around the red-marble AlpenSole fountain. Next door, the domed concert rotunda hosts Kurmusik almost every day, as well as exhibitions, concerts and private celebrations.

The AlpenSole fountain

At the heart of the drinking hall stands the AlpenSole fountain, also called the Kaiser-Karl-Brunnen. Designed in 1927 by Franz Bürgerling, it is carved from red Ruhpolding marble.

It is fed with brine of about 0.5–0.7 % from the Kaiser-Karl spring, used for gargling and rinsing — a tradition of the spa cure in Bad Reichenhall.
